Here We Go…

ExplosionIsn’t it fun to be a Mets fan? The good times lasted a scant 25 hours, now we’ve got more crap to worry about.

Pedro Martinez left tonight’s game in the 4th with a strained left hamstring and the team’s official word is he is day-to-day. Though, he is amost certain to go on the DL.

UPDATE 10PM: SNY’s Kevin Burkhardt just reported that Martinez told him that he “felt a pop.” Pedr, who was somewhat distraught, has already left Dolphin Stadium and is headed to New York for a MRI.

El Duque is going to pitch Thursday in Port St. Lucie and is not eligible to come off the DL until April 13 so, the Mets could end up going to a 4 man rotation temporarily. Jorge Sosa or Nelson Figueroa would be in the mix, should the team decide to stick with a 5 man rotation.

Outside of the organization, Claudio Vargas may be an intriguing possibility. The 30 year old righty was released by theWoody Brewers last week after going 3-1 with a 3.86 ERA this spring. He has a career record of 43-38 with a 4.95 ERA.

There is also 41 year old Woody Williams, who was released a few days ago by the Astros after going 8-15 with a 5.27 ERA last season and had a 11.32 ERA this spring. Meh.
