Its The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year!

Man, do I love Opening Day!

For a variety of reasons (largely because of alcoholic beverages consumed at Matt Cerone’s MetsBlog shindig where I joined famed Mets Divas Zoe & The Coop), I am late to the game in filing this report. So its pretty pointless to rehash most of what you probably have already read elsewhere about the Mets 7-2 Opening Day victory.

Johan Santana was pretty much as advertised, started out perfect, mostlyJohan dominated, gave up a HR (his biggest flaw). I’ll take a W, 2 earned runs, 8 K’s, 3 hits, over 7 every 5 days. Sign me up.

I’m not going to get crazy about Luis Castillo stopping at 3B and not scoring. Given the game situation and his knee situation, its understandable.

Jose Reyes was clearly safe on that steal attempt.

Wright AgainGolden Boy David Wright is already making his MVP candidacy known to the public. Keith Hernandez had said throughout Spring Training that David looked like he was locked in and hitting the ball well, regardless of the batting average. Methinks Mex might be right. David needs to be made official team captain already, he already is in spirit.

Carlos y Carlos–Nice to see Beltran off to a good start, but I think we’ll be seeing a lot more Delgado days (0-for-3,walk) like game #1.

Except for Matt Wise, the pen looked pretty good yesterday. Willie handled things well for once, Scott Schoenweiss was brought in to face lefties and he got outs! I liked Willie rolling the dice with Sosa and lets hope yesterday was the Aaron Heilman we will see all season.

Jon Stewart predicted 162-0 for the Mets this season and I am going to jump on that bandwagon. Pedro goes tonight against the Marlins, who will collectively earn less than A-Rod this season, I can’t wait.
