There’s No Place Like Chase Field & There’s Nothing Like Church Batting 2nd

Is it too late to redesign Citi Field into an exact replica of Chase Field?

The Mets absolutely love playing in that airplane hanger, Costco Warehouse, stadium. The Mets bats absolutely came alive in last night’s 7-2 win over the D-Backs, they were partying like it was 2006.

Maybe it had to do with the return of Moises Alou but I am willing to bet the Mets offensive outburst last night had to do with Ryan Church batting 2nd. Church went 2-for-4 with a HR, a double, and 2 RBIs.  Church is batting .400 when he bats second.

The Mets are undefeated with Church in the 2 hole and Jose Reyes is batting .500 in games where Church follows him in the lineup. Reyes was 4-for-5 with 3 runs scored and nearly had a cycle (he was out on a play at the plate, trying to stretch a triple into an insider the park HR).

When Reyes gets on base, he has a good chance of scoring. When he gets on base multiple times in a game, the Mets have a good chance to win.

When Reyes gets on, Church can drive him home. When Church gets on, pitchers can’t pitch around David Wright. When David Wright gets pitches to hit, he will get hits. Wright went 3-for-5 last night with 2 RBI and was a triple short of the cycle.

When the top 3 batters in the order are clicking, you will win ball games. There is no denying that Reyes-Church-Wright is working for the Mets. That is, unless your name is Willie Randolph.

Willie needs to realize that this lineup is working better with Church batting 2nd. It is not a knock against Luis Castillo, but rather a ringing endorsement of Ryan Church. Castillo has been better of late but the team is just different with Church batting 2nd.

Castillo has today’s game off and Damion Easley is playing 2B. So we have to wait until Sunday to see if Willie is finally learning how to adapt to situations.
