In The Nick Of Time

Nick At Night Late Afternoon

OK.  Enough with the horrible puns but, Nick Evans played a big part in the first time Mets fans could feel good for the first time in what seemed like weeks.  The Mets ended a 5 game skid with a 9-2 win over the Rockies.

Evans went 3-for-4 with had 3 doubles and 2 RBI in his major league debut.  Quite a good effort for someone who probably had not much sleep and lots of travel time to get from Binghamton to Denver in time for today’s game.

The Mets put up a 5 spot in the top of the first, with the big blow coming on a Carlos Beltran 3 run bases clearing double, and didn’t look back.

David Wright and Carlos Delgado had HRs on the day.  Delgado’s was #439 of his career, putting him 35th on the all time HR list.

All 8 position players on the Mets got a hit today.

Mets starter Claudio Vargas was pitching on 3 days rest and went 7 innings, scattering just 4 hits and 2 runs  Duaner Sanchez and Pedro Feliciano pitched 2 nearly perfect innings in relief.

All in all, it was a very solid Performance from the Mets, finally.

  1. Nick looked great. Gave us a spark. He could be a replacement for Alou or Delgado. However lets see how he does when the league starts learning to jam him inside or throw him a curveball. For one game though, he looked better than every other player the Mets have that make millions and millions more than he does.
