Lucky 7 (Innings Of Relief)

Jon Niese made his first major league start for the Mets and he definitely showed some jitters.

Niese gave up a HR to Richie Weeks on the 2nd pitch of the game.  Staked with a 5-1 lead in the 4th inning he gave up 3 runs (he was on the hook for the 5th run scored as well) on 5 straight hits without recording an out.

Carlos Beltran was able to play through his knee pain suffered the night before when he collided with umpire Ed Rapuano at home plate.  Beltran smacked a 3 run HR in the 4th that gave the Mets a 4-1 lead and then in the bottom half of the inning, he threw out the potential go ahead run at the plate.

After Niese left, the bullpen took over with 7 straight scoreless innings and kept the game at 5-5 until the Mets got the game winning run in the 10th.

Daniel Murphy lead off the 10th with another great AB where he battled his way to a pinch hit single.  Jose Reyes followed with a bunt that resulted in an errant throw by Brewers catcher Jason Kendall allowing Reyes to be safe at first and Murphy to advance to third.

Endy Chavez, who was brought in as a defensive replacement, was up next and he drove Murphy as the game winner on a sacrifice fly.

The Mets maintained a two game lead over the Phillies, who also won.
