Why Is Burgos Still On The Mets?

Ambiorix Burgos is accused by police in the Dominican Republic of killing two women with his Hummer in a hit-and-run accident.  He has turned himself in and is currently being questioned.

The Mets released a statement:

“We are extremely disturbed by the reports regarding the player’s potential involvement in the hit-and-run accident that unfortunately killed two women,” the Mets said in a statement. “We take this matter very seriously and have begun an internal investigation to ascertain the facts. Our thoughts and sympathies are with the families of the victims.”

This is just the latest in a laundry list of head scratching and/or disgusting incidents that Burgos has been involved in during the past year.

Apparently Burgos was also charged with gun possession in the Dominican this week when he was found with a handgun, a rifle and a pistol.

Then there was the incident last month at the Holiday Inn across from Shea last month where Burgos punched, bite, and slapped his girlfriend.

He also did not pay his Bayside landlord the last two months worth of rent and was the subject of a “7 On Your Side” story on Eyewitness News.

To start the year of nonsense, Burgos also was robbed of almost $300,000 of jewelry in Port St. Lucie.

If doesn’t make much sense at all as to what the Mets are waiting for before cutting ties with this animal.  Oh wait, Teflon GM Omar Minaya probably convinced the Wilpons that he can fix Burgos.  Minaya loves the scrap heap.  Good thing Minaya has 3 more years to get the job done.
